STEMLink

At STEMLink, students in grades 5-6 explore STEM careers in labs and classrooms on local college campuses. Students attend breakout sessions led by STEM faculty and professionals and learn how studying science, technology, engineering, and math can lead to exciting careers! Review the Minnesota Academic Standards alignment for STEMLink.

Past Session Examples:

Heavy-Duty Diesel Emission Technologies
This session will cover emission technology on the latest diesel engines. We will discuss the theory and operation of emission technology on Cummins engines. We will run Cummins engines and look at emission output. This session will be a mix of in-classroom learning and hands-on demonstrations.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training and Careers
Emergency Medical Technicians respond to emergency situations to assess injuries, administer medical care, and transport injured/sick people to medical facilities. Explore EMS careers and learn hands-on skills such as bleeding control and airway management.
Forensics: How Science Can Be Used to Solve Crimes
Forensic science uses different kinds of sciences to help police officers solve crimes. Police officers collect evidence that can be tested and analyzed by forensic sciences to help solve the crime. Learn the importance of forensic science, from approaching the crime scene to testifying in court. You will get an opportunity to perform a mock analysis that can be used to help police officers solve a crime.
Fun With Hydraulics!
Fluid power technology uses fluid (liquid or gas) to transmit power from one location to another. Common examples are found in aerospace, agriculture, construction, energy, entertainment, forestry, food processing, lawn & garden, marine, medical devices, mining, oil & gas, packaging, transportation, and more. We’ll have fun exploring hydraulics in different ways!
Wood Product Design: Imagine and Create
Math and spatial skills are important for designing and constructing products made of wood. You’ll get the chance to imagine an item, design it, program it, machine it, and assemble it!
